Friends and fans, I am excited to release this new album (full-length, but in two distinct parts) which initially started as a solo set of songs that I had performed over a period of several years.

During that time I had also been sometime collaborating with mbiraNYC, sitting in on shaker or an occasional surdo in Manhattan Samba, beginning a deep love of the range of Indian music and continued improvising with a wide range of folks. Some of those influences and musicians helped me create these songs. Multiple causes, of course….

As I began to record these songs, I realized they warranted something beyond a solo concept. So I opened the project up to include many close collaborators, who helped me in the figuring out of what these songs actually were.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed and collaborated to make this project possible

Mary Halvorson is a genius composer and guitarist who has developed her own musical language, and with Code Girl she has incorporated poetry into that language. Incredible compositions and lyricism (each track is a different kind of poem). Halvorson's playing is as great as usual, and all the other members of the band sound great. Robert Wyatt's singing in particular works extremely well in the tracks he's featured. Highly, highly recommend. rat
